Legendary Footballer Samuel Eto’o Blast Balloon D’or organizers of disrespecting him.
Former footballer, Samuel Eto’o Fils has slammed France Football, organizers of the Balloon d’or award for lack of respect.
The ex-Barcelona, Chelsea and Inter Milan super striker was annoyed after not being recognised as a striker by France Football, after the publication named him as a right-winger in its newly released Ballon d’Or Dream Team.
Eto’o is Cameroon’s all time leading scorer and third-most capped player with 56 goals in 118 caps and won three La Liga and two Champions League titles with Barcelona.
Eto’o scored 371 goals across 764 career club appearances, being named to the UEFA Team of the Year in 2005 and 2006. He also won the champions league with Inter, and majority of his career was spent as a striker.
The 39-year-old former striker now says that he feels disrespected by France Football’s decision to classify him as a right-winger when doing its Ballon d’Or Dream team countdown.
“Thank you, but I played 1-2 seasons on the right (yet I have 25 years of career as a center forward),” Eto’o tweeted in response.
“The lack of respect. @francefootball WHATEVER!”
Eto’o announced his retirement in September 2019. The Multimillionaire footballer also played for clubs like Everton, Mallorca, Sampdoria, Antalyaspor, Konyaspor, Qatar SC, etc.
His biggest international honour was when he won two African Cup of Nations crowns while also leading Cameroon to the Olympic Gold Medal at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. He was named African Player of the Year four times
