Ibukunoluwa Abiodun Awosika, born Bilkisu Abiodun Motunrayo Omobolanle Adekola on December 24, 1962, is a renowned Nigerian businesswoman, author, and motivational speaker.

Despite initially aspiring to study Architecture, Ibukun pursued a B.Sc in Chemistry at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University).

She later went on to earn postgraduate and MBA certifications, further enhancing her business acumen through programs at the Lagos Business School and IESE Business School – University of Navarra.

Career:

After completing her mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) assignment in Kano State, Ibukun worked as an audit trainee at Akintola Williams & Co., which later became Deloitte. She then joined Alibert Nigeria Ltd., a furniture company, as a showroom manager.

In 1989, she ventured into entrepreneurship and founded a furniture manufacturing company called Quebees Limited, which later evolved into The Chair Centre Limited. In 2004, following a joint merger with SOKOA S.A and Guaranty Trust Bank, the company became SOKOA Chair Centre Limited. Notably, Ibukun became the first woman to be appointed Chairman of First Bank of Nigeria after the departure of Prince Ajibola Afonja in 2015.

Philanthropy:

Passionate about empowering others, Ibukun Awosika co-founded the Afterschool Graduate Development Centre in 2011. This center was established to combat Nigeria’s high youth unemployment rate by providing career development opportunities.

Additionally, she played a significant role as the co-founder and former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of WIMBIZ (Women in Management, Business, and Public Service), a platform that supports and encourages women in business.
